Ideas on new hosting and blog platform…
Over the past few days, I’ve added a few items to the blog for advertising. The goal behind them is to hopefully build up enough funds from it to secure dedicated hosting for our blog and to move to a better platform. I personally hate most of the ads because I feel they are a bit too intrusive. I had been talking with another blogger, Pizzababe, about the internal workings of our blogs, particularly ways of getting to a new host and platform.
Upon her recommendation, I added a donate button on the far right sidebar for people to help us out if they are happy with our content and would care to get us closer to our goal of escaping the limitations of blogger. If anyone does choose to help us out, we would be happy to give them credit publicly on the blog, that will be up to the person that donates.
For those that are interested, I am looking at Dreamhost for the hosting, and WordPress for the blogging platform. I like the way WordPress works, but the free hosting they provide does not allow a ton of the things that I would like to do with the blog, nor does it offer the bandwidth or storage that I feel we will need in the long run.
If anyone else has suggestions for hosting, blog platform, and perhaps migration from blogger, I would love to hear it.
